Biography:

On his debut, Heading North, violinist, composer and band leader Jesus Florido introduces a compelling artistry balanced on a fine axis of musical virtuosity and pure heart with an inspired blend of Jazz, rock, classical, Latin Across this vivid spectrum of music, the unmistakable timbre of the violin remains an indelible voice connecting the songs. From the sophisticated veneer of the title track to the incendiary Latin grooves of "Mi Negra," the prog-rock influenced "Con Todo," the electro-Santeria vibe of "Gitano" to the funk-informed "Olividado," Jesus bends rhythmic and melodic structures to his will. " With contributions from Rigoberto Lopez on bass, drummer Raul Pineda, Jose Gregorio on percussion, Gustavo Ramirez on keyboards and John Villalobos on guitars and tres, special guests include famed programmer/remixer Carmen Rizzo and guitar hero Gary Hoey. With his violin as a compass, Jesus Florido crosses all conceivable borders with a stunning debut -- Heading North.

Additional Information

I have a Violin Degree from the National Conservatory in my home country of Venezuela. Also a BM and MM in Violin Performance from Butler University, IN. I will travel anywhere. I am at the faculty at the Mark O’Connor Fiddle Camps and Conferences. And I was the violin faculty at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL from 96-01. My main area of expertise in crossover violin from classical to anything else but I use Latin styles because I am Latino. I am writing an article for the ASTA Journal entitled Bridging the Gap, about how to deal with the alternative styles in the classroom.
