Biography:
Julianna Waller is a violinist, fiddler, composer, and published author (Mel Bay). She received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Therapy from Arizona State University. Born in Alaska, Julianna grew up in the beautiful desert state of Arizona. By age sixteen she had become a nationally honored fiddle champion recognized at the Fiddler’s Hall of Fame. She was featured in the winter 2001/2002 issue of Fiddler Magazine, and her book, Past the Print: Discovering Creative Improvisation for String Players, has received rave reviews by numerous musicians and such magazines as Bluegrass Unlimited. Julianna has appeared on many recordings including Clint Black’s album, Nothin’ but the Taillights. Her own releases include Daybreak, a collection of Southwestern music and Energy Rising, contemporary instrumental music featuring the violin. Julianna has toured with such artists as Brenda Lee, Sara Evans, Lee Ann Womack, and Matt King. She has also toured with the Nashville Mandolin Ensemble and the Broadway show Civil War. As a testament to her versatility, she has performed on the stages of both Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry within the same year. Julianna has served as instructor of violin at Western Kentucky University as well as concertmaster of the Bowling Green-Western Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Julianna is principal second violin of the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra and plays regularly with the Nashville Symphony. She also teaches at the Bowling Green String Academy, presents workshops, and continues to compose and record for Energy Rising.PAST THE PRINT! Discovering Creative Inprovisation for String Players
The author will present unique improvisatory activities to entice the imagination through non-traditional methods including imagery, observation, external stimuli, art and memories. Go ’past the print’ and experience new ways of stimulating your creative voice. Musical focus on artistic expression and theme development. This is especially helpful for beginning improvisers as well as advanced players seeking new inspiration.

Learn a contest fiddling round (Hoedown, Waltz, Tune of Choice) and discover the unique sounds and techniques of this progressive, virtuosic style! Motivate your students and expand their fiddling repertoire with more challenging tunes. Emphasis on style, musical expression, and resources. Presented by Julianna Waller; a nationally honored fiddling champion recognized at the Fiddler’s Hall of Fame. At age 15 she became the first lady and youngest Arizona State Fiddling Champion.
MELODIC IMPROVISATION JAM
Learn to jam over easy chord progressions and focus on melodic development (soloing), phrasing and expression, and interacting with other players. Experience a variety of strategies for easy improvisation with an emphasis on content not complexity.

The Nashville Number 'Chart' System, Touring, and Session Playing: Inform your aspiring students about the skills needed to be a successful musician! Learn how to write charts and the many ways they are useful. Gain insight into the musical/technical aspects of touring with artists. Learn what is expected in the recording studio. i.e., walk in, hear a song one time, and record. Learn basics about working in a band or with a vocalist and the role of the violin/fiddle.
