Grains of Paradise was called, "..one of the most distinctive jazz-with-strings albums ever made," by Boston Phoenix writer Ed Hazel. 2003 brought two new release from Friedlander: Quake, a new quartet recording on Cryptogramophone Records and Maldoror, a solo cello recording on Brassland inspired by the poems of Ducasse. The Downbeat Critics Poll placed Erik has the number one Talent Deserving Wider Recognition (Misc. Instrument) & Friedlander composed and arranged the score for a the 4-part documentary series called, "The Kingdom of David:Saga of the Isrealites" which was broadcast on PBS nationally.
