Biography:

Daryl Silberman studied violin and viola at the University of Colorado at Boulder, San Francisco Conservatory, and U.S.C. She has a private teaching studio and freelances with regional orchestras, chamber groups, and baroque ensembles. Additionally, Daryl plays many non-classical styles, has performed with many songwriters and rock groups, and tours nationally in the schools as a clinician for Knilling String Instruments performing on her traditional violin (Walter) and a 5-stringed acoustic-electric violin (George). Her clinics have taken her to over 30 states and she has performed in front of many tens of thousands of students and teachers. Also, Daryl has presented at many state and national ASTA and MENC conventions.

Clinics Offered

Letıs connect
Inspiring string students by connecting classical and contemporary music.

Letıs play
Exploring improvisation, contemporary genres and simple electronics with string students. An interactive demonstration.

Come see Daryl S. work with a group of student string players and bring an instrument yourself if youıd like to join in. We will explore contemporary styles, sound effects, free improvisations, structured improvisations, and a little rock and blues — all without music. Through these contemporary devices we will address such issues as lack of self confidence, improper positions and postures, and unenthusiastic participation.

Connections
Inspiring string students by connecting classical and contemporary music.

This clinic can be performed tailored to string students, arts and humanities students or the general school population. Often presented assembly style, this is an energetic, music-filled romp covering classical, baroque, rock, jazz, blues, heavy metal and more. Daryl plays on her traditional violin and her acoustic-electric 5-string with the colored bow and electronic sound effects.

Additionally, I can work with students for anywhere from 20 minutes up to a few days (residency style). I am available to conduct, solo, or coach regional/honors/state orchestras.
